EnviroJam, an annual concert run by environment club, will be Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the little theatre.

All proceeds from the show will benefit Green Decade, which is “Newton’s pioneering environmental organization,” according to sophomore Eliana Gevelber. Gevelber helped to organize the event with senior Thao Bach and juniors Jay Feinstein and Victoria Holland, the officers of the club.
Local environmental groups will be showcasing their work beginning at 6:30 p.m.
A preview of “Bag It,” a documentary by Suzan Beraza, will be shown. This film explores the use of plastic grocery bags and their effect on the environment, human health and maritime cleanliness. “Bag It” has been awarded by film festivals across the nation.
After an audition process, club members chose a variety of acts to present.
“We held auditions this year due to the number of people interested in performing in EnviroJam,” said Gevelber.
Acts include seniors Mia Bracciale and Rebecca Jereza singing “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” by Iron and Wine and junior Chris D’Agostino performing “Three Libras” by A Perfect Circle and ” Blind,” an original song.
Sophomore Sam Mayer will perform in so many acts that Gevelber joked that a seat will be reserved for him onstage.
Additionally, all three of this school’s a capella groups, Forte, Northern Lights and Melocotones, will perform, according to Gevelber.
“To me, running EnviroJam is such a joy, because it involves bringing people together to make music,” said Gevelber. “Music makes the world infinitely a better place.”
Tickets are $5 and sold outside the cafeteria during second and third lunches.
