Boys’ swimming and diving opened its new season with a 99-81 victory against Belmont at home Friday.
A highlight of the meet was when senior Austen Young set a school record in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 53.32 seconds.

“We have all worked really hard during practice to improve,” said senior Ryan Campbell, a captain with seniors Cody Chan and Felix Xu.

The Tigers will host Reading today as swimmers continue to “build our endurance and improve our technique,” said coach Ryan Rich. The team “has a willingness to work hard and desire to succeed,” he said.

“We strive to always be the stronger-minded team. Close races are won by the person who has the greater mental discipline,” Rich said.

Short-term goals include “more best times and hopefully a win, but we hope to improve upon last year’s record and to be competitive within the conference,” he said.
