Winning 4-1 over Dedham at home yesterday was “a good match” for girl’s tennis, 7-4, according to senior Emily Chan, a captain with senior Katie Regan.
Tough weather played a role in the match, according to Chan. “The heat and humidity was definitely tough, but we played through it,” she said.
Chan said that one of the team’s strengths this season is being able to adapt to its opponents. “We are able to read our opponents well and use that to our advantage,” she said.
Chan said the team has been working on ball placement in practice.
Chan said that doubles has especially improved with ball placement.
“Our doubles have been seeing more and more success throughout the season, which has really helped us out,” she said.
Chan noted the good performance of the second doubles team, senior Kayla Shore and junior Inessa Pojidaev.
She also pointed out junior Sage Vallabh, who didn’t win but “played well through a close match.”
The team needs a winning record to make the postseason, a single-elimination tournament, and it has four matches left, including one against Natick tomorrow at home, according to Chan.
Next week, the Tigers will play at Wellesley, Needham and Brookline, Monday, Wednesday and Friday respectively. These are three of the best teams in the league according to Chan.
“Even though it’ll be a tough week, I know we’ll play each of them closer than ever because our doubles have been improving all season,” she said.
Chan said the team’s match against Natick tomorrow will be key to qualifying for the playoffs due to the tough schedule next week.
“The match against Natick will be key to getting a winning record,” she said.
