Girls' swim and dive continue strong season

Girls' Swimmingby Adam Rabinowitz

Girls’ swim and dive, 9-1, is having a great season, according to coach Michelle Lewis.

Senior Monica Kieff, a captain with senior Irina Rojas, said that the team is really close and spirited. “Everyone is getting along amazingly and improving their times,” she said.

Lewis also added that the team’s new players have been great. “The freshmen this year are all super,” she said. “They are all really strong and improving.”

Kieff also noted a few freshmen that have stood out this year. “Sarah McEachern is really good at distance and has steadily improved her time. Erin Supko has also performed really well,” she said.

The Tigers lost 102-84 to Needham Oct. 18, their first loss of the season. Although it was difficult, Kieff said it ended up effecting the team positively.

“Our loss against Needham really lit a fire under us and we’re ready to bring it,” she said.

According to Lewis, the loss was necessary for the team to do well later in the postseason. “All great teams experienced losses, and although it is unfortunate we aren’t undefeated, it will help us in the long run.” said Lewis.

Kieff also added that the team’s poor start in the meet led to their loss.

“I think that at the beginning of the meet we started off not quite as serious as we could have been. As we got closer to the end girls started finishing within milliseconds of each other, and Needham just happened to come out on top, but we won’t let them win next time!” said Kieff.

Lewis noted that she has great expectations going into the postseason. “I think that the team will do excellently. The team is building up and has become very tough,” she said.

Kieff also expects the team to do well in the postseason., which starts Nov. 2. “I think we have a chance if we bring our A game. Hopefully we’ll be top three,” said Kieff.

The team will face Norwood Oct. 29 at home, their last meet of the season.
