Freshman boys’ lacrosse, 5-2-1, represents this school well by being competitive and working hard, according to coach David Curnick.
Everyone on the team sees playing time and is enjoying himself, according to Curnick. He said the team is very coachable.
The team has been working on learning the game and developing skills in practice, and Curnick said that he has seen improvement.
He said that one of the team’s strengths is being competitive. “They never give up,” he said.
Aidan Harte, a captain with Matt Mulvaney, said that the players on the team play well with each other and enjoy being on the field together.
The team has an opportunistic attack that gets the hard goals, an athletic midfield that plays well between the lines and a solid defense, according to Curnick. He said the team’s goalies, Josh McLennan-Mayanja and Ethan Plotkin, split time and are “good stoppers.”
One possible problem that could come up, according to Curnick, is that the team only has 15 players, as opposed to other teams which may have up to 25. “If someone goes down or misses a practice, we are in a bind,” he said.
Curnick said that freshman sports are an important part of the sports community at this school. “Everyone has to start somewhere, it’s just the question of how hard you want to compete, what it means to you,” he said.
Every game in freshman sports is important according to Curnick because “there might be some players that this year is as far as they go. It happens to everyone, and someone will tell you that you can no longer play one of these days.”
