Despite large team, freshman boys' soccer finishes positive season

by Jacob Schwartz

Large team size proved positive as well as a challenge for freshman boys’ soccer, 5-6-3, according to coach Tom Barry.

Currently, players cannot be cut from the freshman team, a controversial rule in the athletic department, according to Barry. With over 40 players, the team “seemed more like four teams rather than just one,” he said.
Barry said that although the team was big and at times difficult to manage, “it was a good group of kids.”
“The large amount was definitely a challenge, but the experience was good for them,” he said. “The downside is next year many of them won’t be able to play.”

Jonathan Minkin said the team’s 2-1 win at Brookline Tuesday, Oct. 16 was a highlight of the season. Tied at 1-1 late in the second half, the Tigers scored with under a minute to go, winning the game. “It felt good to beat our biggest rivals.”
According to Minkin, one of the goals of the season was to compete with all its opponents. “We definitely achieved this. We played many strong teams and had some results that were much better than expected,” he said.
