Defense gives football first win

by Jacob Schwartz
The Wildcats were unable to get past the Tigers’ impenetrable defense Saturday, Sept. 17, when football, 1-1, shutout Milton 21-0.
Senior Orion Wagner got the ball rolling for the Tigers’ offense, catching a 17 yard touchdown pass from senior Ryan Byrne, in the right corner of the end-zone.

The Tigers defensive line stayed aggressive throughout the game.

“I heard our pads pop. We were hitting hard,” Capodilupo said. “I don’t think you could hear Milton’s pads popping.”
During the second quarter, the Tigers held the Wildcat offense in place, but also let plenty of  offensive opportunities get away from them. “There were times where we were close, but just couldn’t finish. We have got to get better at that,” Capodilupo said.
Wagner was able to give the team some insurance points when, at the end of the first half, he intercepted a pass around the 30 yard line and evaded defenders to run it back for six points. The play was the Tigers’ first defensive touchdown of the season.
“Orion is one of the hardest workers and was in the right place at the right time today,” Capodilupo said.
“Last week at Waltham, we lost because of our mistakes”, he said. “We made more of them than Waltham. We were able to eliminate a lot of mistakes in practice this week and that helped us today.”
