This school’s annual improvisational comedy show, “Spontaneous Generation,” will run Wednesday, March 28 through Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the little theatre.

Directed by senior Nicole Bunis and junior Sam Raby with junior Nick Rodriguez as assistant director, the production will feature 12 students, 11 actors and one improvisational pianist, sophomore Gabe Montague.

Unlike any other Theatre Ink show, “Spontaneous Generation” is entirely improvised.
“Improvisation is making stuff up on the spot and performing long-form and short-form games that are impromptu,” Bunis explained.
“Every night is different, so people can come to as many nights as they would like,” Raby said.
In a long-form game, the cast improvises a musical based upon an interview with an audience member, accompanied on the piano by Montague, according to Raby.
“We perform a 30 minute, fully improvised musical about the person’s life,” said Raby. “The musical is completely made up on the spot and may be the most impressive and challenging thing we do each night.”
The troupe has previously performed this year at WAI Funny, an annual comedy show at South, which raises money for the organization Water Aid International. The event was Friday, Jan. 13.
They also performed at the FUSN Coffeehouse, an evening of student performances at the First Unitarian Society in Newton to raise money for a Zambian school for AIDS orphans Saturday, March 3, according to Bunis.
Having received positive reception at these events, Bunis is excited to finally present the troupe’s talents to this school, she said.

“The audience can expect a really fun show, laugh-out-loud comedy and craziness on every level,” she said.

Raby echoed Bunis’s enthusiasm, calling the show “the four most engaging comedic performances of the year.”

Tickets are currently on sale for $7 at theatreink.net and will be sold during all lunches.
