After winning the State Relay Championship, the Bay State League title and finishing undefeated again this year, boys’ track, 7-0, reached all of its goals this season, according to coach Jim Blackburn.
Senior Dan Ranti, a captain along with seniors Ryan Donovan, Tylor Hart and Isaiah Penn, agreed with Blackburn that the team reached all of its goals, and he noted that the seniors will be leaving “with assurance that the talented underclassmen will continue our legacy as an undefeated team.”
Not only are the underclassmen talented, but they also seem to be outperforming upperclassmen, according to Ranti.
Ranti said he hopes that the underclassmen will “always continue to push through when things get tough.”
According to junior Young Guang, at the Division I States at Andover, May 28, Ezra Lichtman “ran a spectacular race in the mile” making a personal record of 4:18.
At the Bay State Conference Meet at Weymouth, May 18, the Tigers “performed well given the poor conditions,” Guang said.
“In shot put, we took four of the top five spots in the league,” Guang said.
Hart placed second in the high jump at 6 ft. 3 in., while senior Ezra Lichtman won the mile with a time of 4:21.46.
In addition, Guang said, junior Justin Keefe took third in the mile at 4:27.51 while Hart placed second in the high jump at 6 ft. 3 in.
Guang described the Coaches Invitational Meet at Durfee, May 14, as “one of the best meets we’ve ever had.
“It was a really good day for pretty much everyone who raced.”
According to Guang, Isaiah Penn won the 400-meter dash at that meet.
Penn became number one in the state in the 400-meter dash with the best time in the state and was named Outstanding Event Performer, Guang said.
In addition, Lichtman won the 800-meter dash in 1:57.
Junior Swardiq Mayanja placed second in both the shot put and in the discus. His throws were 53-8 in the shot put and 160-7 in discus.
Mayanja said that finishing second in New England was his “biggest accomplishment” this year.
“Sometimes this sport gets really frustrating, but I focus a lot on the technique since that’s a big part,” Mayanja noted.
Guang concluded, “We’ve had a lot of success as a team this year.”
The Tigers were to have run at All-States at Bridgewater State College yesterday.
