Senior Michael Davis’ blocked shot, and 3-pointer in transition in the third quarter helped the Tigers helped the Tigers to a 63-48 win over Xavieran on Wednesday at home. The Tigers will now advance to the second round of the state tournament.
Coach Connolly thought that the team “came out flying to start the game.” He also added that “getting off to solid starts are one of the keys to advance in tournament play.”
The team dominated in the first quarter, which ended with a score of 18-3.
According to Connolly, “We did a great job on the defensive end of the floor. We kept our composure as the game wore on and we executed down the stretch.”
Senior captain Nate Hollenberg, a captain with senior Mike Gately, also stressed that the team’s defense helped to win the game, explaining that “although we never really gave the knockout punch, we had a good answer to all their runs.”
In addition to solid defense, Davis had a “monster game,” according to Connolly, with 29 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocked shots.
The Tigers’ next game is tonight at 6:30 at home against Taunton.
