Asian Culture Night provided the audience with a variety of performances relevant to Asian-American culture, including a fashion show, a martial arts presentation and a magic show.

The event, which took place Saturday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, was organized by the Asian culture club.

The first performance was a martial arts demonstration by the Calvin Chin Martial Arts Academy. The martial arts students spared, presented common martial arts forms and fought with swords.

Next, senior Emily Ghosh performed the Odissi dance, one of eight traditional Indian dances. Senior Rebecca Jereza, one of the officers of the Asian culture club said, “The dance was really beautiful.”

As a part of the first act, Jereza and Wong performed the song “Samson” by Regina Spektor.

Closing the first act, senior Faris Sheikh performed a variety of magic tricks. In one of them, Sheikh performed an allusion in which he made two cellphones trade places.

Jereza said that “the point of the show was to mix both classic and traditional components of Asian culture with modern adaptations of that culture with Asian-Americans.”

The second act started with musical performances. One by the student-band Stone Cold Fox, and another was by sophomore Calvin Kwong.

After that, senior Matt Moss-Hopkins played a ukulele.

The  final act was a fashion show that, according to Jereza, who wore a classic Afghan outfit in the show, displayed both modern and classic Asian fashion.

To finish the event, the Asian culture club served the audience food from different Asian countries.
Thursday, Feb. 15, the Asian culture club hosted Asian Culture Day during B-block,  C-block, D-block, F-block and G-block.
